Adaptive Swim Instructor - Parkview Family YMCA

Under the direction of the Parkview Family YMCA Aquatics Director, the Adaptive Swim Instructor is responsible for providing a safe and positive instructional swimming environment for YMCA members and program participants with special needs.

They must provide strong leadership, instruction, and motivation for developing the abilities of swimmers with special needs of various ages and diverse skill levels by conducting swim lessons that are in accordance to the core values and standards set by the National Aquatic YMCA programs.  

Through the work of the Adaptive Swim Instructor, participants will learn to swim or expand their current ability in a safe and enjoyable environment giving them skills and love for swimming that they can use for life.



Starting pay range: $7.50 to $8.50 depending on experience

Hours Available at the Parkview Family YMCA, 10001 Dawsons Creek Blvd., Fort Wayne, IN 46825:

  • Sunday evenings, 6 p.m.

Free training available for adaptive swim instructor.



  • Minimum of 16 years of age.
  • Reliable transportation to attend work.
  • Able to fulfill all demands in spirit, mind, and body as an adaptive swim instructor in accordance with YMCA standards.
  • Positive experience working with children and adults with special needs.
  • Demonstrates effective communication and listening skills.
  • Welcoming, service-oriented attitude serving diverse groups of adults in regard to age, abilities, ethnicity, gender, race, economic status, religion, etc.
  • Team player willing to contribute to the culture, mission, and values of the YMCA.



  • Free Individual Membership at all YMCA of Greater Fort Wayne facilities (Allen, Whitley, Wells counties); part-time staff have the opportunity for a small cost to add additional eligible members.
